Message from the Head of School

No matter where you were on our campus during DKJA’s Purim festivities, you couldn’t help but join in the schoolwide celebrations! Bright and early in the morning, Lower School students enjoyed the merriment of an interactive parade, while Purim Schpiels, with many parents and teachers portraying Queen Vashti, Queen Esther, King Ahashuerus, Mordechai, Evil Haman, as well as other unique characters, were enjoyed by all grades.

Active learning continued as students, parents, and loved ones wrapped and delivered Mishloach Manot packages both on campus, and to Holocaust survivors in the community. Following this project, a carnival for Middle School students, complete with a costume contest, took place on our sports fields.

“It was a day of betting, winning, and hilarious impersonations as DKJA high school students stormed through the doors early Tuesday morning with energy and creative costumes,  ready to live out their clandestine thoughts,” noted HS Senior Dana Kandel. “For seniors, this meant humorously imitating the colorful personalities of teachers during faculty meetings. The teachers traded in their usual roles as lecturers and acted out the Purim story with a modern twist. Rooms were filled with games and movies, creating an aura of fun, a Mitzvah on Purim day. Students also read aloud the Megillah, showcasing their eloquent Hebrew reading, while others summarized parts of the story. All in all, it was a day of gaiety and relaxation. At the end of the day, they departed, beautiful Mischloach Manot bags in hand.”

Although I say it over and over again, examples such as these are why we are so proud of the Jewish Day School education that Donna Klein Jewish Academy provides. Instilling Jewish values, experiences, education, and most importantly, pride in our heritage, speaks volumes. Our Purim activities captured the essence of this, and the spirit of our school.

Shabbat Shalom,
Karen Feller
Head of School
